Conservation K9s
Enhancing our world one species at a time

At Guardian K9 Solutions, LLC, we provide training for conservation detection dogs to assist in the global fight to protect endangered species and reduce wildlife crime.

We are devoted to using the unique abilities of canines to protect our planet.

More and more species around the world are becoming increasingly endangered as a result of environmental changes (such as climate change), or societal impacts (such as wildlife crime).

Our team is proud to assist in these efforts by training conservation detection dogs for a variety of purposes. We are able to utilize these amazing dogs and their sense of smell to help researchers, scientists and conservationists to protect our environment all over the world.

What are Conservation Dogs?
Learn how these amazing canines help protect our world.

Conservation detection dogs are dogs that are specially trained to sniff out odors related to conservation.

While they work similarly to bomb, drug, search and rescue dogs and other types of detection canines, instead of searching for drugs, explosives, accelerants or missing people, conservation dogs are searching for things related to conservation and biology.

Generally, conservation detection dogs search for things that fall into a few broad categories:

1. Endangered species - Conservation dogs can be trained to search for animals, plants, insects, scat (animal poo) and nesting materials of endangered species. When the dog finds the intended species or material, the species can be recorded and samples may be taken. These things can tell us many things about a species such as stress levels of a specific animal in an area, genetic variability of a animal, estimated population, or information about the animals diet.

2. Invasive species - Non-native plants, animals, or other organisms that have been introduced to an area and can cause harm to the environment, economy, human health or a variety of other reasons. These amazing dogs can be trained to detect plants, animals or insects in this category.

3. Contaminants - These dogs can be trained to find gas leaks in pipelines, heavy metals along shorelines, a variety of pest or mold just to name a few.

4. Wildlife crime - Conservation dogs are helping reduce wildlife crime around the world. These dogs can be used at boarders and ports of entry to detect illegal exotic animals, such as live birds smuggled for pet trade, shark fins, invasive plants and even ivory or rhinoceros horn are just a few examples.

Our fully trained Conservation K9s start at $20,000, with final pricing determined by the specific detection target, training requirements, and operational needs of the organization or project.

Because conservation work can vary greatly from one mission to another, each K9 is developed with its intended working environment and objectives in mind. Specialized training may include detection of wildlife species, scat, invasive species, plants, biological samples, or other target odors.
